About our Classes

We offer day and night classes at the San Jacinto Adult Learning Center and at satellite locations around the El Paso Area.  These include classes in:



Services Offered

The San Jacinto Adult Learning Center offers ESL, ABE, GED and NLS classes twelve months a year, including daytime and evening classes.

Currently, the Adult Learning Center offers nine (9) levels of instruction:

English as a Second Language

Four (4) levels of ESL language instruction are offered to students with limited or no proficiency in the English Language.

Adult Basic Education (ABE) / (Pre-GED)

ABE and Basic Skills (Pre-GED) instruction is offered to students who have a minimal level of skill in reading, writing and math (Grades 0 through 8) and are proficient in the English Language.

General Education Development (GED) and Native Language Support (NLS)

English and Spanigh language instructon in Adult Secondary Education (grades 9th through 12th) helps students in obtaining a high school equivalency certificate.

Citizenship

Instruction in U.S. history and U.S. government is offered to adults preparing to become permanent residents or U.S. Citizens (citizenship) at their appropriate instruction level.

Computer Literacy

Computer literacy class integrated with ESL components that allows students to learn basic skills in MS Word and Excel.

Pre-Transition to Community College

This course gives adults the time and opportunity to develop an understanding of postsecondary education and the skills needed for successful transition.

Healthcare ESL

Students will learn English, workplace skills for the healthcare industry and also computer skills.

Math Numeracy

Students will learn real-world math activities that they can use every day.  For example, you will learn how to use fractions, decimals, and percentages in shopping, cooking, and calculating a paycheck.

Just Grammar

Students will review and strengthen their grammatical knowledge and skills in this class.  After taking this class, students will feel more confident in other areas such as reading and writing.


Eligibility

Youth and adults ages 18 and over who reside in the El Paso area are eligible for our services. There is no income requirement (minimum or maximum) to qualify.
